I have been working with my hands as a carpenter, metalworker, painter, and leatherworker for most of my life. My background in the construction trades has been very useful in my artwork. The ability to visualize a product and then the steps needed to produce it; patterns, materials, applications, are all skills aquired directly from my trades experience.
The leatherwork started at an early age, inspired and learned from my father. He was a half-breed Cherokee Native Indian, who believed if you were going to make something it should at least be well made enough to last a person's lifetime. I've tried to follow his credo and produce items that are both unique and durable.
All of my early leatherwork was custom, one-of-a-kind pieces. Some of these have become production pieces, but I still prefer to do one-offs. The motorcycle stuff was born of the desire to get that tribal look... "To turn my motorcycle into the horse, Mom would never let me have!" Now... I never have trouble finding my Iron-Horse in the parking lot.
